"Our Digital Futures"
March 6 and 7, 2013

Dear colleagues:

It is my pleasure to announce and to welcome you all to the second IFLA Presidential Meeting to be held in Mexico City on 6-7 March 2013. While the topic of my first Presidential Meeting held in April 2012 in Vancouver Canada focused on the organization and ownership of Indigenous Knowledge which dates back thousands of years, the theme for my second Meeting will be looking to the future of the amazing and complex digital world that we live and work in now and that is rapidly evolving.

Entitled "Our Digital Futures", this Presidential Meeting will explore the impact of digital developments and the expanding technological, social and economic environment in which libraries operate and serve their communities. But discussions will go beyond libraries to cover activities happening in related fields such as cultural industries, research and education and the legal environments for digital access around the world. If there is one lesson to be learned from the digital environment, it is that information is truly global and we are all connected together in the creation, preservation and dissemination of knowledge. And libraries play a key role in this information ecosystem.

Join us for an exciting and stimulating two days of discussion and reflection, led by several renowned speakers from Latin America and the Caribbean as well as from around the world.

I look forward to meeting you in Mexico City in March!

Ingrid Parent
IFLA President
