Dr. Juan Voutssas M.
Resume
Juan Voutssas-M. is an Industrial Engineer with ICT specialization (Information and Communications Technologies), graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico – Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM). He got his Master's Degree in Library and Information Science and then his Ph.D. in this same discipline from UNAM's Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. He has been a professor in this university for thirty-seven years. Member of the National System of Researchers and of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. Senior Researcher of the Institute of Library and Information Science Research = Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliotecológicas y de la Información (IIBI) at UNAM since 1993.
He has been Director of the Software Directorate for Academic Computing Services at UNAM, Director of the Center for Science and Humanities Documentation within this University, Director of Administrative Computing Services and ICT Vicedirector of the Directorate for Libraries at UNAM. He was member of the UNAM's Top ICT Advisory Council for 19 years. He also has been advisor on Information and Communication Technologies, Libraries and Archives for ICANN (Internet Corporation for Names and Numbers asigned), the University of Colima, the Colegio de Mexico, The National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT), The Federal Institute for Elections (IFE), The Social Sciences and Humanities Schools Certifying Council (ACCECISO), The National Commision for Mexico City High Schools Admission (COMIPEMS), The National People Registry (RENAPO), The National Supreme Court of Justice, etc. He has been professor in over 180 courses in Mexico and abroad. He is author of many publications: books, journal papers, Web sites, several on-line databases and published over 30 on CD. He has been speaker or panelist in over 300 meetings related to the fields of ICT, digital libraries and archives, and has been invited to numerous councils and boards related to these disciplines. He was president for two years of the mexican "Librarians' National Professional Association"
From 2008 to 2012 was coordinator of the Mexican 'team' in the International Research "InterPARES", whose objective was to develope the essential knowledge for the long-term preservation of authentic records created and/or maintained in digital form and providing the basis for standards, policies, strategies and action plans capable of ensuring the longevity of such material and the ability of its users to trust its authenticity. From 2012 to 2018 he coordinated the Latin American 'team' in this international research project.
